Hello everyone! Hope you’re enjoying your Holy Week this week. I am going to have, within the next couple of months, some times where I’m going to be in different places around the world, and I’m going to have some public meetups. I’ll just say that I’m going to be in Mexico City, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Eastern Europe—actually, various countries in Eastern Europe, mostly Southeastern Europe.
So, I’ll talk about those very briefly. First things first, the most recent, or I guess soonest, event is going to be in Mexico City. I’m going to be in Mexico City for Monero Topia, which is going to be on the 5th, 6th, and then the 7th of May. That’s a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—Cinco de Mayo and the next couple of days. Monero Topia is going to be held at this very nice venue out there, so if you’re in the region or if you’re willing to fly in, I recommend you come out.
Now, Monero Topia is a ticketed event, but not just I am going to be there; lots of other people who are kind of in the sphere will be there as well. You do have to pay for a ticket, but they actually emailed me the other day and mentioned that they do have a promo code. If you put in “Luke Smith” with a capital L and S and then no space, you’ll get $20 off the ticket. I don’t get any money from that; that’s just to adjust for your inelasticity of demand there. That’s a term, right? It’s been so long since I got my degree in economics that I forget things sometimes.
So, I’m going to be in Mexico City for those couple of days that weekend. If you want to come, whether you’re a local or are willing to fly in, I should say that locals actually get highly discounted tickets in the first place, so it’s much cheaper than for an American who comes in. Okay, but either way, me and a bunch of other people are going to be there. I’m not going to say I’m having a meetup; I’m just going to Monero Topia, and I’ll be there, and you can come and talk to me or whoever else.
After that, by the same token, I am going to Linux Fest, as I guess usual. Every time I can go, I will go to Linux Fest Southeast in Charlotte, North Carolina. I don’t actually know if there’s a date scheduled for that yet, but it’s usually, I think, the second weekend in June. I will be out there whenever it is. A lot of people came last year; we had a great time. Actually, it was fantastic! You missed out if you didn’t come, so definitely come next time if you’re around there.
The big one is I’m going to Eastern Europe, though, so that’s going to be at the very end of June and into July a little bit. I’ve actually appointed several designated dates for having public meetups. For example, I know for a fact that I am going to be in Athens, Greece, on June the 25th, and that is a Sunday. So, if you are in the region or want to come to that region and see Athens, I will be there. Email me, and we will arrange some kind of public meetup. I haven’t decided exactly where it’s going to be, but we’re going to be there. Email me if you’re interested.
So, that is the last Sunday in June. The next weekend, which is going to be July the 1st and 2nd, I am going to be in Podgorica, Montenegro. If that is easier for you to get to, you should come there. I haven’t quite decided if I want to do the first and second, Saturday or Sunday, but if you’re interested in coming, email me, and we’ll figure things out. We’ll decide which day to do it on, but I will be out there.
I put up a blog post maybe a month or two ago about me being in Eastern Europe, and basically, all the emails I got were from Greeks and a lot from Serbs and those in Montenegro. I didn’t get any from Albanians, or maybe one or two, but not enough to do a meeting there. However, I will be in Albania if you want to do something. I don’t know; we can do something—just email me.
I know I said earlier I might go to Constantinople or Istanbul, but I probably actually will not. I’m so sorry; a lot of people were interested in me going there, but I probably will not be going. I’m sorry about that. But if you want to come out to Podgorica or Athens, I’ll be there.
Let me think, what else? So, that’s basically all the big events. Also, there’s a possibility I might be in Athens, Georgia, for the graduation at UGA. If anyone’s around, email me if you want to see me out there, but I’m not totally sure I’ll be coming to that. That’s on May 11th or something like that, so that is before Monero Topia but after Linux Fest.
I usually am not a traveling person; I feel like the past year I have just had all these traveling things that I’ve been doing. It’s like I don’t know; I just want to live my life. But oh well, you know, I’m going to take advantage of it. I’m going to milk it for all it’s worth because I don’t know if I’ll ever go to Eastern Europe again. You never know; maybe I’ll just love Montenegro so much I’ll stay.
Anyway, what was I going to say? There’s also a possibility at the end of the year I might be out west, like in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson, maybe even Nogales, Mexico. I don’t know about that; that is not 100% sure, and it’s also not 100% sure that I want to do a meetup there.
Anyway, that’s all the stuff I’m going to be doing. Again, hope you enjoy your Holy Week this week. Make sure everyone in the world, all of you people, go to Pascha. Go to the midnight Paschal service at your local Orthodox Church. Whatever you can in Holy Week, go to pretty much all that you can. Maybe you can skip the reading of Acts if your parish reads the entire book of Acts of the Apostles in one sitting, but you know, go to the midnight service if you can.

Biking hurts joints, painting is for ASD folks and gives terrible illnesses. The only good part about you is reading books. I read good books like The C Programming Language, "Promise Me, Dad" by the election winner and 'Heal Me with Your Mouth. The Art of Kissing.' by the Cardinal Fernández. These are all good books. I really would like to use the internet less. Id like some good books to read. I even though of reading teh bible even though I dont believe. Just something to read. Wish Luke could expand the trip through the Mediterranean, I was expecting Slovenia at the very least. Alps in the summer goes really well indeed. Nouveau sucks because it is reverse engineered. Nvidia drivers allow you to actually use the thing you paid for, but they have their issues too. I'd say amd video cards are best for Linux as long as they support vulkan 1.3. Intel integrated gpu drivers are free software though.+1
